About the Instructor
Donald Robinson was born in 1950. He attended Allegany High School in Cumberland, Md. and graduated in 1968. He immediately attended Frostburg State College but had no clear career path so withdrew in 1971. He worked as a full-time musician playing in bands locally as well as in the Harrisburg, Pa area.
He returned to college to graduate with a BS degree in mathematics and pursue knowledge of music in 1975. Studying music theory and composition and continuing to play music full time, he returned again to college in the fall of 1978 to complete education requirements only to drop out to take a full-time teaching position at Bishop Walsh HS in Cumberland. After doing very well on the National Teacher Exam, he took a full-time teaching position at Hampshire HS in Romney, WV.
Upon researching continuing education possibilities, he accepted a teaching assistantship and pursued and was awarded the degree MS in Mathematics in 1982 from West Virginia University. He accepted a full time teaching position at Garrett Community College in 1982 and was Instructor of Mathematics and Computer Science.
In 1984, he accepted a position at Allegany College of Maryland (then Allegany Community College) and has been promoted to Professor in 2001. He has additional graduate work in Mathematics from WVU via distance learning and additional credits in Education from WVU and Western Maryland College and also in Mathematics Education from Duke University.
He still performs locally as a musician and besides web class work, is the webmaster and board member of an environmental organization Friends of the Cacapon River and his former church First Presbyterian of Frostburg. He also is keyboard, bass, vocalist and drummer for a Praise and Worship band 'Trinity' from Somerset Pa, and plays guitar sometimes for the full gospel group 'Souls Won' from Cumberland and Keyser WV and backs singer/composer Julie Ann Boyce on guitar when ever he can. He sings in his church choir (Faith Presbyterian in Lavale MD) and with the Cumberland Choral Society and sometimes dabbles in barbershop singing.
He loves cycling and canoeing if the weather and river conditions are right, and can often be seen floating, kayaking, canoeing near his summer home on the Cacapon River near Largent WV.
He resides in Frostburg with his wife and two of his three daughters.
